As we close out the year, we are so thankful for all the amazing people we have shared our home with and those who are still planning to visit over the next month. With gift-giving season upon us, we have put together our favorite gifts this holiday season for those who love the Texas Coast as much as we do.
Your favorite angler’s new favorite drinkware. A fresh take on a classic, this is the perfect gift for someone to boast about their favorite lodge (Bay Flats) or a great way to tell someone that that’s where they’ll be headed on a trip in a few months. For a quick morning coffee before hunting or a nice whiskey drink to celebrate a beautiful day on the river. Keeps things cold, keeps ‘em hot, and locks it in place for no-spillage with the magnetic drinking tab.
What’s more stylish than a waxed, unstructured 6-panel hat? Look calm, cool and collected in the Bay Flats Lodge Duck Hat. This cap is great on the river, as it has water-repellant qualities due to the waxed fabric. The more you wear it, the more character it gets. Comes in brown, blue and green with a classy embroidered BFL “Duck” logo, 100% hand made in the USA with an interior sweatband that won’t yellow or stain, put this on your head and we guarantee it’ll be a compliment factory.
Sight casting for Redfish doesn’t get much better than at BFL, but you know what makes it great? Two trips for the price of one. Call the lodge at +(1)888-677-4868 to redeem the promotion.
Are you currently in Texas, or have you ever wanted to visit? A trip to Bay Flats Lodge is in order. Right on the Texas coast, where else can you land a fish on the fly, hunt 13 duck species, and come home to some of the finest southern cooking? We can provide you with expert guides, top-of-the-line equipment, and incredible access to have a shot at numerous species of waterfowl and game fish in the vast San Antonio bay system. When saltwater fly fishing, you need a reel you can trust with a smooth drag and quality that lasts. We have found those qualities in all the Bauer Reels we have used on the water.
“Hard to beat an RX. Buttery smooth drag, great aesthetics, and quality manufacturing all in one single package. Love my RX reels!” – Review by Lance Nelson.
This is the jacket you want on those seasonal transition days. Waterproof, with plenty of room to layer up underneath, an adjustable hem, and storm cuffs for maximum comfort and warmth – it comes in two colors, and you want to run, not walk, to add to your cart.
G&H Decoys are the only decoys we use at the lodge, for good reason. Beyond looking amazing, they are durable; trust us, we put them to the test, and they stand up to daily use here in the bay.
“I’ve used my super mag mallard decoys every year since the 80’s. I can confidently say these are the most durable, easiest-to-handle decoys I’ve ever owned. Very high-quality decoy made for the long haul.” – Review from Brent Owens, G&H Decoys superfan.
Salt Strong is a great place to get all of your saltwater tackle needs taken care of. It was hard to pick one item here, but we can always rely on a workhorse reel.
If you’re looking for a high-quality line of workhorse reels at a steal of a price, you have to turn your heads to the Eliminator Series spinning reels by Salt Strong. Here are some of the (many) five-star reviews:
“I love the fact I can back-reel on the unit! Sturdy, durable, and smooth best describes this inshore reel.” – Peter O
“This is an excellent, lightweight but strong reel. I’ve caught sea trout and reds with a 2500 paired with a St. Croix Triumph 7 ft ML and love the smooth drag.” – James E
Specializing in Saltwater fly fishing, the Sight Cast Fishing Company has it all. From stunning flies, original stickers, great apparel, and all the gear you could ask for, this place is a one-stop-shop for getting something useful for that favorite angler in your life. Grab them a gift card here.
This is an item you will see regularly around the lodge. If you love wade fishing, these booties are a must. It is comfortable and practical, one of the most used pieces of gear in the bay. In our opinion, a good pair of saltwater wading booties are one of the most important pieces of gear for any saltwater angler.
Clearly, we’re all about memorable experiences at Bay Flats Lodge. Similarly, our friends at The Fly Shop, based in Redding, California, couldn’t agree more. They offer a Women’s 3-Day School catered exclusively to women interested in learning more about fly fishing. Sessions are focused on preparing anglers of all skill levels for any and all situations while fly fishing. A perfect gift for your mothers, daughters, aunts, and grandmothers in your life. We have been fans of Winston for a long time and are honored to be on their preferred lodge list. We were blown away when we had the opportunity to try out the latest saltwater rod from Winston. Our fly anglers who have fished with us know you have a range of casts you need to be able to make on a day fly fishing the Texas coast.
This rod lives up to everything we need in a fly rod. When we need to make quick shots, the rod picks up and responds well for those 20-foot and in casts. When the wind is blowing in your face, and you have a group of tailers at 40 feet, the backbone of the rod gives you the punch you need to get your flies through the wind.
