Doron Lovett was introduced to fly fishing as a teenager while growing up on a cattle farm in south-central Oklahoma, just minutes from the Blue River. He spent much of his childhood wading its spring-fed waters in pursuit of trout, smallmouth bass, and common carp. What began as an outdoor pastime quickly developed into a passion that would ultimately shape his career.
Driven by his love of the sport and a desire to share it with others, Doron pursued a career as a professional fly-fishing guide. He gained valuable experience guiding for Beavers Bend Fly Shop along the Lower Mountain Fork River in southeastern Oklahoma, as well as Sportsman’s Fly Shop in Lake City, Colorado, during the summer months. These experiences helped him develop the knowledge and skills to share his passion for fly fishing with clients from across the country.
In 2020, Doron set out to explore the Texas coast, where he quickly became captivated by the challenge and excitement of sight-fishing for redfish on the fly. The experience proved to be a turning point, and he soon knew that the Texas coastal bays were where he wanted to focus his guiding career. Today, Doron lives along the Texas coast near Bay Flats Lodge, where he continues to pursue his passion for fly fishing and looks forward to introducing his clients to the unique opportunities these waters have to offer.
Doron runs a 2024 Black Duck Mantis skiff, designed in Rockport, Texas, and powered by a 60/40 jet-drive system that helps him navigate the shallow flats and backcountry waters where redfish thrive. His dedication to the sport extends well beyond the water. With 10 years of custom fly-tying experience, Doron creates flies specifically tailored to the bay systems he fishes, giving him a personal understanding of the patterns and presentations that can make a difference on the water. He is also a member of the Winston Fly Rods and Bauer Reels Preferred Lodge Program.
Doron has also made his mark in competitive fly fishing. Over the past three years, he has competed in the Port O’Connor Borracho Pescador Fly Fishing Tournament, earning impressive results along the way. In 2022, he and his teammate claimed first place out of 165 teams. In 2024, the pair returned to the leaderboard with a top-10 finish among 200 teams.
But beyond the equipment, the flies, and the tournament accomplishments, Doron believes that a great day on the water is about more than catching fish. His goal is to make every trip memorable, combining his knowledge of the fishery with an easygoing approach that makes clients feel right at home.
