Capt. Chauncey was born and raised in Victoria, Texas, and grew up fishing in the Port Lavaca and Port
O’Conner areas. At the age of 16 while wade fishing Boggy Bayou shoreline with a red and white queen
Cocahoe Minnow, he experienced a thump that sent a shock wave up his spine and made the hairs on
the back of his neck stand up. When he set the hook and saw that speckled trout come out of the water
thrashing her head side-to-side, he was hooked! So, at the age of 18, Chauncey purchased his first boat and has
owned one ever since. He’s currently running a 2021 24’ Haynie Cat equipped with a 300 Mercury engine.
For the last 26 years, Capt. Chauncey has been fishing up and down the Texas coast, from Galveston Bay
to the lower Laguna Madre, chasing the elusive trophy speckled trout. He also enjoys targeting redfish,
black drum, and flounder while wade fishing. He obtained his U.S.C.G. captain’s license in 2021, and now
resides here locally in Seadrift, Texas, where he enjoys great fishing and the tranquility of a small town!
When asked why he finally decided to become a guide he stated, “I enjoy teaching people how to locate
and target fish, and showing them what I’ve learned throughout my lifetime of fishing. Also, there’s
nothing better than seeing the smile and excitement on people’s faces as they land their first trophy
redfish, speckled trout, or flounder!”
