Capt. Nick Dahlman was born and raised in Houston, Texas, where he played baseball all the way through college at the University of Houston. Growing up as a boy, you could always find Capt. Nick in the outdoors, whether it be fishing the waters of Galveston and Matagorda Bay, or duck and goose hunting the rice fields of the Katy prairie, as his passion for hunting and fishing was instilled in him by his father before Capt. Nick could even walk.
Capt. Nick’s family has spent most of their free time fishing and hunting while visiting a house they bought many years ago in Austwell, Texas, which is located on San Antonio Bay. His favorite fishing technique is pursuing trophy speckled trout on shallow flats while throwing top water lures. He’ll be the first one to tell you, “There’s nothing quite like the sight of a 30-inch trout blowing up your lure on the surface in shin deep water.”
As far as duck hunting goes, you can count on finding Capt. Nick out in the marsh with his chocolate lab every single day of the season. Pintails, Redheads, and Widgeon are his favorite ducks to target, so you can usually count on bagging heavy straps of them while hunting with him. Capt. Nick runs a 23 foot Shoalwater Catamaran boat that is great for running in extremely shallow water in the back lakes of Matagorda Island, or for finding other hard to get to places where the fish and the ducks may be hiding.
Back in 2007, Capt. Nick was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer that caused him to endure six months of rigorous radiation therapy to rid him of this terrible disease. Unfortunately, the cancer returned in 2009, and he was again forced to undergo another six months of chemotherapy. However, he fought the battle with cancer and won, and today has been declared to be in remission with no physical limitations. Because of his bouts with cancer, Capt. Nick doesn’t take anything for granted, and he lives each day to the fullest! There’s absolutely no place he’d rather be than on the water sharing his fishing and duck hunting knowledge with others while they experience the unexplainable beauty that San Antonio Bay has to offer!
