Floundering at Bay Flats

Let us show you how to catch flounder without a fishing rod.

Lights. Flounder. Action.

Some may consider floundering a very unconventional form of fishing, but anglers have been doing it for as long as can be remembered. However, gone are the days of wading through nighttime waters with a lantern in one hand, and a gig in the other.

Today, Bay Flats Lodge guests gig flounder from the comfort and safety of a well-lit boat. The lights on these boats illuminate the marsh waters so bright that many may even be mistaken for low-flying aircraft.

The back lakes adjacent to San Antonio Bay and Port O’Connor offer some of the finest floundering beds found anywhere along the Gulf coast. It’s an angling opportunity that keeps on giving year-round.

As a guest at the lodge, you can easily experience the best of both fishing worlds in a single day. You can enjoy a day of bay fishing and then head out for floundering after sunset, or arrive in time for dinner and board the floundering boat afterwards.

Regardless of your preference, you’ll take pleasure in floundering with the region’s most experienced nighttime gigging guides. If you’ve never done it, you owe it to yourself to try it today. We look forward to floundering with you!

WHAT TO EXPECT
WHAT TO PACK
Our floundering boats will depart at sunset, and you’ll need to bring your valid Texas saltwater fishing license, as well as your driver license. We also recommend mosquito repellent, a camera or cell phone, and adult beverages, if you prefer (absolutely no glass allowed aboard the boats). A wind breaker or light rain jacket may also help with nighttime temperatures and/or possible rain showers.
