Bay Flats Lodge on San Antonio Bay

Day 2 starts off with a bang as our first stop yielded speckled trout immediately hammering live shrimp offerings. We started getting a decent box and it stops at about 5 trout because our friends the dolphins moved in and it was over. I have heard many people state that it does not matter if dolphins are spewing their breath in your face when you are on a bite. Every time I’ve encountered dolphins they have stopped the catching and today was frustrating when it happened again.. being more stubborn than dolphins I knew the trout would be all over the reefs so we picked up to move to another one and resumed our count. By 8am we were at our limit of 20 beautiful fish so off we went looking for what’s next. Similar to yesterday the red fish were scarce and the drum we are nowhere to be found. Kenny did however garnish the box with a nice 23″ red to end the day and the fishing part of their trip on a nice note. The family who fishes together stays together I believe was the last statement profoundly said and that will be on next year’s shirt!

Another good fishing trip for these 3 guys out of the San Antonio area. Limits of trout up to 22 inches. Solid bite all morning drifting with shrimp under a popping cork over shell. Finding the off colored water was the key to getting bit. Look forward to having them again today!

Wading with lures Tuesday. Trout to 23″ and reds up to 26″. Best baits were Thumping mullet in roach and plum/chartreuse.
Capt. Steve Boldt
Wednesday was a good start to croaker season!
Remember, “Fishing here is not about challenging your fishing limits, but about the art of relaxation.” Good luck, and tight lines to you all…!
