Bay Flats Lodge on San Antonio Bay
By Captain Chris Martin
Capt. Stephen Boriskie
Tuesday was between the good and the bad as I hosted two gentlemen here on an insurance retreat part of a 4-boat party at Bay Flats Lodge. The good part was the wind was sort of down in the wee hours of the night but the bad part was it was steadily increasing before I had a decent box of trout on the scoreboard. Working as quickly and calmly as I could I knew these fellows would end up with a full limit of trout but I struggled finding the way to get there. There are things you did yesterday and two days ago that just don’t work and some you tried weeks ago that do work. Thankfully the latter was the case as I returned one of my favorite reefs and with the water still above normal the trout were sitting right where I left them last time. Then again sometimes you just get lucky but like I said it was between the good and bad because the fish were there but also were some uncomfortably aggressive waves. My guys stuck it out and put their ten in the box …..successful trip and a beautiful day.

Trout action was quick and on fire over shell piles using live shrimp under a popping cork today. Haven’t made the transition to croakers yet the unmentionable fish are not a nuisance yet but soon will be. Drum are being caught on sand pockets using dead and live shrimp under popping corks as well.
Remember, “Fishing here is not about challenging your fishing limits, but about the art of relaxation.” Good luck, and tight lines to you all…!
