Bay Flats Lodge Report By Captain TJ Christensen
Wild flower blooms bring the trout to the thump of the cork. Over my fishing career springtime has always been my favorite time of the year to fish for Speckled Trout. Oh how I wish I could see the journey though their eyes as they make the transition from warm water mud flat and back lakes to the outside shorelines and shell reefs. Water temp plays a key role in the transition. Over the past few weeks talking to BFL guides the trout have started responding to the thump of the popping cork using live shrimp. The early morning bite over shell reefs has been producing good numbers of trout.

Captain Doug Russell
Left the dock this morning looking for new areas holding fish. We found that a lot of these spots definitely have the fish, just not the right size yet. Keep grinding and you are bound to run into them. Finally, found that spot and midday trout limits hit the deck fairly quickly over mud and shell using live shrimp rigged under popping corks.

Captain Stephen Boriskie
One of those days you hope for when trying to plan a fishing trip with light Northeast winds and a glorious sunrise over the bay. Furthermore the fishing and catching were off the charts with full three-man limit of Speckled Trout by mid morning. Leaving the trout biting we hurried off to try and find Redfish for their competition and we hooked the sure fire winner but the oversized Redfish spit the hook near the boat AWWWWWW!!! Later we bounced around the bay system looking for more Reds and other fish and released another ten keeper Trout until finally landing a mid 20-inch Black Drum. Guys had a great time catching many undersized trout too, near constant action for this Austin customer in the building frame biz…thanks guys and see you back next Friday too.

Captain Cooper Hartmann
Great day yesterday! With calm weather in the morning was able to slap out a limit of trout really fast, then managed to stick a few good reds. Cooper
