SEADRIFT PORT O'CONNOR FISHING REPORT

May 04, 2008

Wade fishing area shorelines with a tapering bottom from 2.8 to 3.5 foot of water has been the key to picking up early morning trout bite. I’m still shuffling over mix mud during high wind days, or fishing near shell during lighter winds.

The lodge welcomed BBP Company and Capt. TJ Christensen adjusted to shell early and popped 21 trout on his first set. According to TJ, the trout action was aggressive and early which worked to my advantage due to being hit with extreme north wind gust that shut down most anglers fishing for the day. We were chunking live shrimp to tapered shell pads in San Antonio Bay. Capt. Harold Dworaczyk and his partner Aaron took 15th place in the Matagorda Redfish Series. Good job guys! Capt. Nathan was able to lock in some huge reds for Ryan L. and guest who played golf together at Rice University. I waded with the other Ryan L. crew and took advantage of an early trout bite. We landed 18 trout before the front blew us off the water. Best color lure was tequila gold Norton Bull Minnow. Most of the trout averaged 16” with several that we released due to not making the bench. The top water bite didn’t happen for us, but we did chunk them. Capt. Jason Wagenfehr struggled to locate a decent bite, but did manage to land a few trout before being chased in by the high winds.

Saturday evening the lodge welcomed Matt G. party, Ed H. and guest, CMC crew, Shawn S. from Austin and guest, Ryan L. and guest in for Sunday’s trip.
